Grumpy man hangs banner on his home telling schoolchildren to be quiet

A former TV presenter has put up a giant sign on the side of his house – asking the local infant school pupils to keep the noise down at break time. Graham Purches said his move was simply a polite request that the four to seven-year-olds at Elmlea Infants' School in Westbury-on-Trym near Bristol be encouraged to respect people who lived nearby.

Mr Purches, who has lived in his home for more than 30 years, said the children's noise was sometimes so loud that he and his wife could not have a conversation in their garden.

Mr Purches said he had no objection to the school, which two of his children attended, but was asking the staff and parents to remember that they were visitors to the area and to encourage the children to respect the school's neighbours.

"It is a very polite notice," he said. "The last thing we want to do is to stop children enjoying themselves. We just don't want a lot of excessive screaming and shouting."

Or maybe he shouldn't live next to a school?

Yeah, cos upping and moving to a new place is quick, easy and affordable.
He's been there for 30 years - it's possible he's been there longer than the school has.

Sorry, but the school has been there for 42 years. Furthermore the school is part of the community and a very important part at that.

This man is clearly one of those idiots who thinks the needs of the individual outweigh the needs of a larger part of the community.

You will notice that he is alone in his complaints. How many people in that country live next door to schools? And how many of those are selfish enough to believe that they are more important than the school?

Notice one word in the article which is significant - retired. You can bet that when this selfish idiot was perfectly happy to live next door to a school when he worked, now he's at home all the time he doesn't like it. IOW he's just another NIMBY. He never cared about the noise when it was effecting other people who were at home all day, but now he's at home all day he cares and will expect his neighbours to support him.

I live next to a main road, should I put out a sign asking people to drive quietly? Or how about the farmers ploughing their fields or harvesting their crops? Should I ask them to be quiet too?
