Footballer played with burnt nipple

A burnt nipple almost cost Adam Chapman a place in Oxford United’s side on Saturday, with manager Chris Wilder admitting he had never heard of such an injury before.

The midfielder played through 90 minutes of pain in the 3-1 win at Wycombe Wanderers following a freakish accident at home on Friday night. Chapman was preparing a bottle of milk for his new-born son, but did not attach the lid properly and spilt it over himself.

The 22-year-old was taken to hospital, and a bemused Wilder admitted it almost forced a late change to the line-up. He said: “Adam was a doubt, he had to go to hospital and may have to go and see a specialist to have a closer look at it because he’s burnt his nipple.

“It’s an unusual injury, but to be fair he played and came through the game. We talk about injuries and what happens to me in this job and sometimes what football managers have to go through, but that’s a new one for me.”

I thought the same thing.

There's something not quite right about this story.

...so he poured boiling hot milk into a baby bottle? Hope the baby is OK.

NFL players regularly play with broken bones. But then this is soccer we're talking about, which is a game for teenage girls, so I guess this counts as an "injury."
