"It's obviously a contest of showmanship, it's a performance art and the people of Oulu have seen it for so many years that it's just something that traditionally ends the summer for the Oulu people here," said air guitar show producer Hanna Jakko.
The winner on the night was American Eric Melin, better known by his stage name 'Mean Melin'. "We want to elevate the art of air guitar to performance art," Melin said.

"Because we're not playing, we're not pretending to play the guitar, we're not playing invisible guitar, we're playing air guitar." He won a handmade electric guitar.
