Blind man barred from shop in case dog knocks over antiques

Although his vision has deteriorated in recent years, John Hammond has always had an eye for a bargain.

So whilst on holiday with his family, the 61-year-old - who is registered blind - took the opportunity for a quick browse of the local wares.

But his shopping spree was cut short by one trader who refused the customer and his guide dog entry to the shop- because he was blind.

The retired bricklayer, who wears a reflective yellow sash to identify that he is a guide dog user, was told by the manageress of an antiques store, "You can't f****** well see, why do you want to come in here?".

Leona Bracey proceeded to scream at the stunned customer that his guide dog, Ingram could break something by wagging its tail.

But yesterday the antique dealer was counting the cost of her outburst after a judge awarded Mr Hammond £1,500 compensation for the anguish caused by the verbal onslaught.
