Farmer finds pigs graffitied by Banksy

A shocked farmer found his pigs, which are to appear in a film by a Glastonbury-based film company, had been used as a canvas by a world-famous graffiti artist.

Farmer Andrew Wear woke on the morning of Sunday last week to find that five of his pigs and one lamb had been "graffitied". The "tag" or signature on the pigs is that of Banksy, a Bristol-born artist, whose graffiti work fetches thousands of pounds.

The pigs are due to appear in a feature by Mendip Films. The comedy horror film, PigBoy, is due to be filmed in the Mendips and tells the story of an unwanted newborn who is abandoned to his fate inside a pig pen who, as he grows up, changes into PigBoy, and rampages around the farm.

Mr Wear was sure that the pigs had not suffered distress as a result of the incident.

He said: "I am a bit mystified by it all. They do not seem affected at all and I found a empty spray can on the ground which is the same they use to mark livestock, so it is completely harmless."

Mr Wear said he was going to leave the pigs with their new markings and let the pigs get rid of them through wallowing.

Many thanks to Annemarie for both the story and the scanned photo.
