A cigarette butt casually tossed to the ground sparked a day-long argument between four neighbours that escalated into a fight that sent at least three of them to the hospital and got them all arrested.
Decatur police say a guest visiting 42-year-old Bobby Joe Ray tossed a cigarette butt toward the edge of Ray's yard on August 4th. The butt landed near a fence belonging to Ray's neighbour, 24-year-old Michael Alan Bradford. Bradford got angry and started shouting about it.
According to authorities, several neighbourhood residents said Ray and Bradford argued about the butt all day.
Eventually Ray's sister, 32-year-old Shirley Lynn Ray White tangled with Bradford's wife, 27-year-old Heather Mills Bradford. The men soon joined in.
At least three went to the hospital for treatment of injuries, and all four were arrested Tuesday and released on bond.
