Suicide link to headless corpse

Police discovered the dismembered remains of a woman in her flat in New Orleans after her boyfriend jumped to his death from a luxury hotel with a five-page confession note in his pocket.

The dismembered body of the 26-year-old woman was found on Tuesday night in her apartment above a voodoo shop in the French Quarter of the city. Local media, citing police sources, reported that the victim’s charred head was in a pot on the stove, her legs and feet had been baked in the oven and the rest of her body had been placed in a rubbish bag in the refrigerator.

Police said that the 28-year-old man had leapt from the seventh floor of the Omni Royal hotel. New Orleans is famed for its voodoo culture, introduced by African and Caribbean slaves. The French Quarter has also served as the backdrop for some of the vampire novels by Anne Rice, most notably Interview With the Vampire.
