Caravanning has been named as the most popular paid-for holiday for people taking breaks in Britain.
In the past the most contact many people had with caravans was a disgruntled frustration when stuck behind one. Now, however, more and more holiday-goers are opting for the home-on-wheels approach, according to the Caravan Club.
The industry takes a 17% share of all UK holidays, according to the club, which is Europe's biggest touring organisation.
There has also been an enormous growth in vehicle sales in the past two years, the club added. In 2005, about 8800 motorhomes were registered and last year the figure rose to 10,000.
