An Andy Warhol portrait of Marilyn Monroe is expected to fetch more than $15 million (£7.7 million) at auction on May 16.
In 1962 Lemon Marilyn was bought by its present owner for $250 from a gallery in New York that was staging Warhol’s first one-man show.
It is now a highlight of the PostWar and Contemporary Art sale at Christie’s in New York. The portrait is one of the 13 that Warhol produced of Monroe after her death.
