Animal urine prompts school evacuation

Students at Hazelwood Elementary School are back in class after the Bluegrass Avenue school was evacuated this morning because of an odour circulated through the building.

Fire officials discovered the smell was coming from a locker where a backpack soaked with animal urine was located, said Lauren Roberts, a Jefferson County Public School spokeswoman.

About 10 a.m., the roughly 440 students at the school near Taylor Boulevard were ushered out of the school as a precaution while officials investigated the smell.
