A bizarre, tourist promotion-style video documenting construction of the new Christmas Island detention centre has been posted on internet site YouTube.
The 10-minute video, complete with soothing background music, provides an up-close look at work on the remote detention centre, set to house asylum seekers while their claims are processed.
The film is shot from the front passenger seat of a vehicle as it drives around the controversial facility's vast construction site, 2,300km north-west of Perth.
As the vehicle passes various sections of the detention centre, text indicates their purpose - from "outdoor exercise area" and "education" to "accommodation block", "diesel storage" and even a conference area.
Razor wire fences are clearly visible in the video, which shows the massive scale of the development.
One YouTube user who posted a comment after watching the short film wrote simply: "Gulag."
