IT manager avoids the jams by kite-surfing to work

Sailing past traffic jams is every commuter’s dream but David Grimes does that almost every day - literally.

The 37-year-old IT manager puts on a wetsuit each morning and kitesurfs to his office in Brighton.

He lives in a beach house along the coast west of the city in Shoreham, West Sussex, and the trip to the shore nearest his office takes about 30 minutes.

He then gathers up his gear, walks the short distance to his office and changes, James Bond-style, into a shirt and jacket, ready for work.

Mr Grimes said: "It’s so much better than sitting in traffic jams and breathing in petrol fumes - this is good exercise and it's environmentally friendly."

Prevailing south-westerly winds mean the return trip home would take two hours so Mr Grimes carries his folded-up kite and hops on a bus at the end of each day.
