A 10-month-old girl has survived an eight-storey plunge from a Shanghai tower block after her drunk father apparently threw her out of a window.
The incident occurred during a row between the girl's father, 26-year-old security guard Yu Dongrui, and his mother-in-law, the Shanghai Daily reported yesterday.
The child suffered only a broken leg because her fall was slowed by tree branches and she landed on soft soil in a flowerbed.
The father was said to have a strained relationship with his mother-in-law. His wife asked for a divorce, which he refused, two months ago.
The man was said to have taken sleeping pills in the morning before he started to drink in the afternoon. The argument with his mother-in-law started after she asked him to leave her house.
Police detained the man while they continued their investigation.
