Trevor Porter captured a stolen ornamental goose - by driving four miles to confront the crooks who swiped it.
Trevor, 59, was livid when he saw a man and woman grab the £40 garden ornament from outside a shop and jump on a bus.
So he got in his car and followed them to a shopping centre, in Chippenham, Wilts.
He said "I told them I was calling the police and they said they were really sorry and that it was a practical joke."
Grateful shop owner Keith Bulson said: "I was delighted when Trevor returned with the goose.
"I was quite overcome. The effort he put in was absolutely first class and he is to be congratulated."
