Wheezy Riders hit the road

Two thrill-seeking pensioners, Peggy Legit, 61, and Phyllida Dare, 63, are setting off from the West with just a motorbike to tow a caravan around England, Wales and Ireland.

Mrs Legit, who is from Tetbury, Gloucestershire, and lost her left leg in a motorcycle accident six years ago, will drive the specially adapted threewheel German-made 'trike' with her companion, who is from Fulham, London, riding pillion.

They will sleep in the caravan pod and an attached tent in the evenings.

If the trip goes well Mrs Legit intends to go to Australia on a long trip next year with friends coming out to meet her along the way.

The pair set off from Westonbirt Arboretum and are due to catch a ferry from Fishguard, in Pembrokeshire, today. Anybody who donates along the route will be able to sign the caravan.

The pair are raising money for the Alexandra Rose Day, a charity which supports small and local community charities across England and Wales. Mrs Legit said: "We are looking forward to it because it should be a tremendous laugh and we should raise some money for charity.
