Woman survives 'decapitation'

A woman who survived a near fatal car crash has battled against all odds to make an incredible recovery.

On March 21 last year, Lynn Verney, aged 56, of Strokins Road, Kingsclere was rushed to hospital by air ambulance with severe external and internal life-threatening injuries, which her family and doctors initially believed to be irreparable.

Her neck was broken so severely that her head had become detached from the top of her spine, all the bones in the left side of her rib cage – front and back – were broken, she had a punctured lung, ruptured spleen, fractured collar and cheek bones, her pelvis was broken in three places and she suffered severe head injuries.

But on Sunday she was able to attend the Ferrari Funday at Highclere Castle to pledge her support for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Speaking slowly, with the assistance of her husband of almost 38 years Tony and son Jason’s partner Jayne Thompson, Mrs Verney said: “I’m here because the air ambulance saved my life. “If I had had to go by road to the hospital, I wouldn’t have made it.”
