Groom, 96, marries sweetheart, 74

A 96-year-old man has become one of Scotland's oldest bridegrooms after he married a woman 22 years his junior.

Bill Rodgers tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend Liz Stewart, 74, at his home in Cherrybank, near Perth.

The pair, who have been together 10 years and are both widowed, said they had no immediate plans for a honeymoon.

Mr Rodgers said: "After the furore has died down and I see what money I have got left in my current account, I might consider something."

Yesterday I found a news story with the new Mrs Rodgers quoted as saying: "When Bill proposed, I didn't ask him to get down on one knee as he'd probably still be down there now." Unfortunately it's now been removed.
