Son's thieving left his mother with just £86

An art dealer stole almost £200,000 from his 96-year-old mother and even cancelled her meals-on-wheels service to fund his lavish lifestyle, a court has heard.

Raymond Green, 63, also seized money that should have paid for the upkeep of his father's grave as he exploited his position as manager of his mother's finances.

By the time her son was arrested, Bertha Green's savings had been reduced to £86, Southwark Crown Court was told.

Green, of Golders Green, north-west London, admitted four counts of dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit and one of using criminal property between August 2002 and May 2005.

Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC adjourned sentencing until Feb 1.
