No escaping the short arm of the law

Most seven-year-old boys would be riding around on their bicycle, or playing at home with their computer games.

But Cameron Lawson prefers to spend his time on more civic-minded pursuits.

The primary three pupil from Strathmiglo in Fife is thought to be the youngest person in the UK to form a neighbourhood watch scheme.

He hands out self-made leaflets to neighbours offering safety tips, and keeps a watchful eye on their homes while they go on holiday.

Crimefighting Cameron also regularly checks up on Maisie, an elderly pensioner in his street.

He was inspired to form the neighbourhood watch scheme after the death of his grandfather left his grandmother alone and vulnerable. "My grandad died and I realised my granny was on her own, and that was quite upsetting, so I wanted to make sure everyone was OK," he said.
