Robbers spent four hours stealing empty ATM

A Gang spent four hours stealing a cash machine, only to find it was empty.

They had taken a car from Highfield Street, Long Eaton, Derbyshire, at 9.30pm on Thursday and parked it on College Street.

At 12.40am on Friday, the Ford Escort was used in a raid on the Texaco garage on Longmoor Road, Long Eaton. After forcing their way in, the raiders dragged out the free-standing machine and put it in the car.

At 1.30am, police found the offenders had set alight to the car, registration number M138 RTV. The ATM was found beside the burnt-out vehicle near the Pennyfields housing estate in the town.

Three offenders, who wore hoods, are being sought.

Detective Sergeant Steve Dawson said: "They went to a lot of trouble to steal this ATM machine, which was empty, and will be feeling a bit miffed about it."
