Police defend 'no face' photo-fit of robber

Police have defended the issue of a photofit of a suspected robber which does not show his face.

Detectives are hoping to capture a villain who robbed a 98-year-old woman of her life savings. But most of the suspect's face is covered by a baseball cap and all that is visible is part of his nose and mouth.

The photofit has been circulated in Pontypool, south Wales, where the distraction robber took the woman's savings after claiming to be from the local water board.

Gwent Police defended the photo-fit picture saying it could provide them with a clue to the criminal's identity.

A spokesman said: "This incident was a particularly nasty attack on a vulnerable person. This picture has been issued as it is the only description we have at this stage.

"Sometimes the smallest of details can jog someone's memory and bring about significant leads."
