They were identical twin brothers. Soul mates and best friends, enjoying a few drinks together on a Sunday afternoon.
But in a moment of "blind rage", Aodhan Donlon plunged a chopping knife into his brother Colm's body.
The twins, who had previously lost one brother to a heart attack at a young age, were close friends and the exact cause of the fateful row is forever lost in a haze of alcohol.
The blows were enough to puncture 29-year-old Colm's lungs and liver, and cause huge blood loss which was to prove fatal within minutes.
The court heard he will be haunted for the rest of his life, and every time he looks in the mirror, by the fact he killed his identical twin.
Yesterday, Aodhan was jailed at the Central Criminal Court in Dundalk, Ireland, after pleading not guilty to murder, but guilty to the manslaughter of Colm. The judge imposed a three-and-a half-year custodial sentence dating from September 16 last.
