The world's first power assisted suitcases

The world's first motorised suitcase, which promises to take the strain out of dragging heavy baggage around, has been launched by a British company.

The £700 PA case has a motor in each wheel and an "anti-gravity" device which claims to make a 66lb (30kg) load feel as light as 6.6lb (3kg).

Live luggage, the company behind the invention, say it can travel at running speed for half a mile when the batteries are fully charged.

The case sets into action the moment the handle is tugged, turning on the motors and a device which centres the weight of the baggage directly over its wheels, rather than on your arm.

Pressure sensors built into the handle monitor how hard the case is pulled and increases power if the slope gets steeper or if the user walks faster. But if the case is accidentally dropped the motors automatically switch off, so it won't run away.

And each case has a laser-etched serial number, so that if lost, the finder can contact its makers who email or text the owner.
