Police hunting loot from a robbery dug up a distraught couple’s hamster. Detectives swooped after a tip-off that Charlene Gurney and boyfriend Adam McGarry were spotted burying a cash box in their garden.
The pair explained they had laid to rest their furry pet Mr Itch in a shoe box.
But the cops, investigating a cash snatch at a Co-op, insisted on digging up the hamster to check their story.
Charlene, 20, Adam, 21, were watching TV a couple of hours after burying Mr Itch when the police arrived at their home in Bradford, West Yorks.
Charlene said: “Two plain-clothes officers said they had a call that we had buried something. Three other officers came over the garden fence. “After they exhumed Mr Itch they were very apologetic.”
A spokesman said: “Two units were sent to the house, which was a standard response.”
