Travel agent sends woman to Puerto Rico instead of Costa Rica

She set off for a dream break among the beaches and forests of Costa Rica.

But Samantha Lazzaris ended up 1,300 miles away in Puerto Rico thanks to a blunder by her travel agent. Instead of typing in the airport code for Costa Rican city San Jose on her plane tickets, Thomas Cook staff put in San Juan, the Caribbean island's capital.

When she landed Sam, 33, hailed a cab to go to her hotel and the driver told her she was in the wrong country.

She said: "I didn't believe him. But I looked around the airport and saw Puerto Rico posters. It was distressing."

Ms Lazzaris, from Bristol - who paid £500 for her flight - had to fork out an extra £800 to get her to Costa Rica.

And she claimed Thomas Cook staff were rude and unhelpful when she phoned about her plight. The firm said: "We will investigate."
