Syringe found in stuffed monkey

A Portland woman says her family found a syringe inside a stuffed monkey after her son won the toy at a pizza parlour.

Rebecca Barton said her son had been playing the popular "crane game" at Papa's Pizza in Beaverton when he used the crane to pull out the stuffed toy.

Barton's son proudly showed off his winnings in a photo snapped by the family, but Barton said their happiness quickly soured when they examined the toy and discovered the syringe.

"We made some jokes about this is what 50 cents gets you nowadays, he handed it to my husband and he looked inside of it and noticed down in the leg was actually a syringe - like the size of an insulin syringe," Barton said.

Barton said she simply wants parents to be aware and urged them to check toys before allowing their children to get their hands on them.

"I think it's just important for parents to understand that this can happen and you really do need to check those toys," Barton said. According to the toy supplier, it's the first such incident in selling 500 million toys.
