Motorway greyhound on wrong track

Police are searching for a greyhound which appears to have given its owner the slip and was last seen scampering down the hard shoulder of a motorway.

The animal was spotted on the aptly-named Bone Lane in Doncaster on Friday evening sporting a blue coat with the number 2 on it and wearing a muzzle.

South Yorkshire Police said it appeared the dog had been racing.

It is thought the same animal was then spotted on Saturday afternoon on the A1(M) at junction 38 near Doncaster.

Bewildered motorists watched in astonishment as the dog scampered down the hard shoulder on the southbound carriageway.

A police spokesman said: "We think it is the same animal. It has generated a lot of calls this one, quite a few 999 calls. It is a bit unusual, you don't expect to see a greyhound on the A1. We are still out looking for it, but so far it has not been found."
