Mouse has lucky escape from lemur

This mouse had a lucky escape when a lemur tried to snatch it in a Scottish zoo.

The wild field mouse was wandering around Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothain when it came a little too close to the monkey's cage.

As it sat nibbling a leftover crumb it failed to notice the inquisitive ring-tailed lemur eying it up.

The hungry primate carefully eased its arm through the wire cage and moved its hand right above the rodent.

But just as it made a grab for its prize an eagle-eyed zoo keeper spotted the ambush and leapt to the rescue.

The moment was captured on camera by tourist Alasdair Preston.
