Bungee fall captured on video

A UK tourist has suffered injuries similar to those of a car crash victim after a bungee jumping accident.

Rishi Baveja was on a month-long holiday in Phuket to celebrate gaining a degree in engineering when he decided to visit the Jungle Bundy centre in Kathu.

As he jumped off the 50m platform and fell towards the water at speeds of up to 130km/h the bungee jump cord slipped off his feet and he hit the surface of the water.

Update: The video is now working.

Mr Baveja escaped massive head injuries by managing to take the full force of the impact on his chest, however he still suffered a ruptured spleen, collapsed lungs, a torn liver and severe bruising.

Surgeons likened his injuries to those of a car crash victim, and he spent a month in hospital.

"All the doctors were staggered that I lived," he said. "I'm very lucky. If I had landed head first I would be brain damaged or dead."

There's another video here. Many thanks Mark!
