Mystery intruder beheads fish

Boulder police are investigating a reported early-morning home invasion that frightened one 19-year-old woman and left her with a headless Betta fish.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Monday, when the woman said she awoke to find an unknown man standing in her apartment at 1121 30th St., according to Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.

The woman, whose name isn't being released by police, yelled at the person, told him she was going to call police and ordered him to get out, Huntley said.

The intruder ran from the apartment. The woman didn't initially call police because she assumed the man had mistakenly entered the wrong apartment through her unlocked door, Huntley said.

She did leave her apartment at that point and spent the rest of the night at a friend's house, according to police. When the woman returned later on Monday morning, she discovered that someone had beheaded her Betta fish and taken $10 from her wallet.

No other valuables were taken.
