A mother faces jail after she pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a pram – with her five-month-old son inside.
The 43-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested as she staggered through the centre of Yeovil, Somerset, at 2.30pm.
Stunned onlookers dialled 999 as she used the pram to support herself and fell on to parked cars. Jeffrey Bannister, defending, admitted the woman was a former alcoholic but said she had been sober for two years. But he said after a row with a neighbour she “became anxious” and felt she needed a drink to steady her nerves. She had downed vodka and Cokes.
The woman from nearby Street admitted to being drunk in charge of a child under seven at South Somerset Magistrates’ Court. She will be sentenced on March 4.
