Girl, 5, hits hole-in-one

The family of 5-year-old golfer are celebrating after she became potentially the youngest girl in the world to sink a hole-in-one. Tiny Eleanor Gamble drove the ball 86 yards over a lake, round a bunker and straight into the cup on the par three hole to rapturous applause from fellow golfers.

The 3ft 5in tall youngster was playing in an Easter juniors contest with brother Jacob, 10, at Cambridge Lakes golf course on April 15, when she made the miracle shot. Proud dad David Gamble, 34, who was watching with Eleanor’s visiting great grandparents, said she was still “over the moon” at the incredible feat.

David, of West Wratting, said Eleanor only took up golf two years ago, aged 3, and was just trying to get the ball across the stretch of water. He said: “She keeps saying ‘I can’t believe I got a hole-in-one’.

“She got the ball over the water and then it hopped over a bunker and someone shouted that she had got it in. We were all quite speechless really.” David, who runs his own pharmaceutical firm, said: “I think she might have broken a record because the youngest female hole-in-one golfer listed on the Guinness World Records website is by an 8-year-old from America.”
