They ordered him to choose between teaching and his music - saying he could no longer teach anywhere in Baden-Wuerttemberg state unless he gave up the band. But Gurrath said he was too addicted to death metal music to quit and agreed to give up his career as a teacher instead.

Despicable, firing a teacher because of their perfectly legal free time activities. And I doubt Mr Gurrath described himself being "addicted" to his music. The writer of this piece is also quite despicable.

He may not be "addicted", but he obviously places more value on his music than on teaching.
I don't think it's fair to say that his performances were a "form of mental instability", though... unless you're going to call all people who express themselves mentally unstable.
Correction. He does not necessarily value his music more than teaching. He just values it more than a teaching job in Baden-Würtemberg. I think there's a huge difference.
