A fire crew from Ammanford was sent out to investigate "distressed noises" coming from a drainpipe in the town at 5.30pm on Wednesday, following a call from a member of the public.

Firefighters first thought a puppy had found itself stuck in the drainpipe and expert help was sent for.
A spokeswoman for the Mid and West Wales Fire Service said: "It was believed that a puppy had become stuck up a drainpipe but when it was freed it turned out to be a hairy rat." One of the firefighters said: "We did get a bit of a shock when we saw what it really was."
