Granny saved her dogs from fire but left her grandson sleeping

A family rescued their beloved pet dogs from an horrific house blaze but left their grandson asleep upstairs – after they forgot about him.

Guilt-ridden grandmother Mandy Hands, 45, saved her four greyhounds from the fire in Woodway Park, Coventry, leaving 11-year-old Curtis in bed.

Luckily firefighters managed to find the boy in the inferno and scrambled Curtis through his bedroom window and carry him down a ladder to safety.

Housewife Mandy admitted she was struggling to get over her guilt of leaving her grandson in the fire.

She sobbed: ”I can’t get over the fact I left my grandson in bed.

”He’s visiting from Portsmouth and I was panicking so much trying to get everyone out that I forgot he was in here. I never even checked on him.”

She was woken up to a sudden emergency - I'm not surprised she forgot about her grandson. You remember the familiar things in an emergency. I'm glad they got the boy out in time.

No.  If there is child in the house, you remember them, even out of a dead sleep, even in a panic. That's when you find out who people really are, what they really care about.

I'm not that surprised.  Her age doesn't exactly speak to responsibility.  (Let's see... she became a grandmother at 34, which means either she or her child -- or both -- was a teenage parent.)

Oh, good grief, people. Have a little compassion. In a panic, in the middle of the night, she forgot that her grandchild -- who doesn't live in the house -- was visiting. Remember the story that was posted the other day about parents forgetting their children in a car? Failures of memory are common, especially under stress, and happen even to the most caring and responsible people, because the brain goes into "autopilot". This poor woman will probably be wracked with guilt for the rest of her life, whether she deserves to be or not.

Obviously she didn't remember, so you are wrong.
