Police get gardening advice and cake from cannabis farmer

Police have been receiving gardening tips on how to improve their tomatoes – from a convicted cannabis farmer, a court heard. Gordon McAulay, 32, has been offering his advice on how to grow the best fruit and vegetables every time he answers bail.

McAulay was required to visit his local police station every week while he awaited sentence for operating an illegal cannabis farm at his home. But during his trips to Tavistock Police Station in Devon he has been sharing his knowledge of growing techniques with the local constabulary.



McAulay was jailed for 15 months at Exeter Crown Court after pleading guilty to producing £30,000 worth of class B drug between September and December. Defence counsel Richard Crabb said McAulay was a ”likeable” person which was ”demonstrated by his friendly behaviour” at the police station.

He said: ”He has been signing on at Tavistock police station while on bail. He has been giving police advice on how to improve their tomato growing.” McAulay, of Gunnislake, Cornwall, was found with 69 plants weighing 6.68kg. Mr Crabb added that McAulay had also taken officers cake during his trips to the police station.
