Police say thieves are using a new tactic to steal cars in St. Louis - their own set of wheels. One couple even saw their car getting swiped, catching the theft on camera.
The video shows an old pickup truck pulling up behind Joe Millitzer's 1987 blue Ford Tempo and pushing it down the block. Police said the thieves later connected the car to a tow dolly pulled from behind.
"In broad daylight to take a truck and push a car down the street, it's unbelievable," Joe Millitzer said. "It's just brazen." St. Louis police said they have arrested three people on three different occasions in the past eight months using tow trucks to steal old cars.
"The very first arrest we made this year was thanks to a south side resident who thought it was suspicious about a tow truck in the alleys looking at cars," police Capt. Jerry Leyshock said. "We caught the guy based on the description with a stolen car." He said the thieves get money for the cars from salvage yards, "so it's quick cash."
