Brazilian striker Neymar was at the centre of one of the most bizarre sendings off in football when he was sanctioned for putting on a mask. Of himself. Upside down.
The incident occurred during a league match between Neymar’s club, Santos, and Colo-Colo.
Having already been booked for a needless trip earlier in the game, Neymar scored a brilliant individual goal sparking celebrations. He then picked up a discarded paper mask of his own face that was left by the side of the pitch.

The joke amused the player and his team-mates – but not the referee, who produced a second yellow card for the over exuberant celebrations, meaning Neymar was sent off.
