Complaints force bar to end goldfish racing

Although the bar was packed every Tuesday night, the Harmon Tap Room in Tacoma has called off its goldfish races.

Bartender Joel Cummings said the emails and phone calls from people claiming to work with PETA probably started after a video was posted on the bar's Facebook page. "I guess someone took a video of one that jumped out of the trough and landed on the floor," Cummings said.

The races feature two eight-foot long troughs filled with water. The bar would get 10 cent feeder fish from the pet store and drop one each into the trough. A racer guides the fish down the course with a squirt bottle.

"We took care of them when they weren't racing," said Cumming. "Occasionally they would pass away."
