Tenacious dog makes Houdini-like escape from vet's office

Jack, a six-year-old German Shepherd Houdini escaped from a Medford, Oregon veterinarian's office by pulling open his kennel, tripping the dead-bolt on the clinic's back door, and finally pulling the door handle down to exit the building.

Marsha Billeci, Jack's owner states the dog is extremely intelligent, stubborn, and tall which has helped him figure out how to open cupboard doors by hooking his claw on the handle and pulling the door open.

Last week Jack had been checked into the veterinarian's office because the dog had signs of pneumonia and was so ill he could barely walk. The vet put Jack on intravenous antibiotics and within 72 hours, Jack was perky and obviously home sick.

The presumptuous pooch then wandered seven miles from the vet's office heading in the general direction of his home and tried to get into a woman's house. The homeowner called animal control who took him to a nearby shelter and was able to reunite Jack with his family.
