Love triangle pensioner punched rival on mobility scooter resulting in broken hearing aid

A love triangle involving two Worcester pensioners arguing over the same woman turned violent when one was punched in the face on a mobility scooter. Michael Blick, aged 69, was left with a broken hearing aid and a black eye following the assault by 67-year-old Lloyd Shea. Worcester Magistrates Court was told that Mr Blick started a friendship with Shea’s ex-partner Linda Wright, who is in her 50s, and had moved in to her home in Randwick Drive, Warndon.

Shea, of Chedworth Drive, claimed Miss Wright was his fiancĂ©e and took offence to Mr Blick moving in with her. On Tuesday, July 26, Mr Blick left Miss Wright’s flat on the mobility scooter to go and buy some cigarettes, said Douglas Marshall, prosecuting. Shea approached Mr Blick and accused him of “taking advantage” of Miss Wright and asked why he was using her mobility scooter. An argument ensued which resulted in Shea punching Mr Blick in the face twice.

“Witnesses said Mr Blick was nearly knocked off the scooter. His hearing aid was broken and he was left with bruising around his eye,” Mr Marshall said. “While in custody police officers say Mr Shea said, ‘If I can’t have her, nobody else will’.” Shea, who pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage claims he was racially abused. Mark Sheward, defending, said: “The common denominator between these two men is a woman.

“Mr Shea would say he is still in a relationship with her and they are engaged to be married. Mr Blick has moved in with Miss Wright and that is where the trouble has started. Mr Shea feels Mr Blick has ulterior intentions. Mr Shea needs to recognise his relationship with Miss Wright is over. It is something of a love triangle – one woman, two men, both trying to form a relationship with her.” Shea admitted assault and criminal damage. JPs gave him a year’s restraining order and told to him pay £125 compensation.
