Kate Middleton in thigh tattoo legal battle

A tattoo on a woman called Kate Middleton is at the centre of a bizarre legal case. The design on the upper thigh of Ms Middleton – a shop worker as opposed to the duchess of the same name – has prompted a copyright lawsuit.

Its designer, Karolina Randakova, was sacked by the studio where she worked despite the floral tattoo on Ms Middleton, 20, not being finished. It was completed by another artist and Ms Randakova is demanding £832 for copyright infringement.

‘They [the studio] shouldn’t use graphic works in application of tattoos without consent of the author,’ her lawyer, Sandy Moffat, told a court. However, Robert Frazer for the defence said the studio – Dragonheart Tattoo UK in Portobello, Edinburgh – had not copied or reproduced any designs.

‘All the defenders did was to complete the tattoos by colouring them in,’ he said. Ms Randakova was dismissed in September 2009. The case at Edinburgh sheriff court was adjourned to await a decision by sheriff John Horsburgh.

the flower in the tattoo is a telopea speciossima, common name 'waratah', the symbol for the state of New South Wales (Australia).

Thank you Arbroath, keep up the good work
