Peruvian bar serves fresh frog juice

A bizarre soft drink extracted from frog has caught on in South America's Peru. It has become so popular that some people have formed the habit of drinking it every day, as they believe that it has a curative effect on diseases with the lungs.

In a well-known snack bar at a street corner in Lima, which has been selling the drink for 15 years, customers may witness how the frog juice is extracted and how more than 20 ingredients are added.

Frog juice, according to the bar owner, can make the body strong, soothe fatigue and is tonic to both the bones and the eyes. The bar owner said the frog comes from a fresh water lake known as Titicaca at a high elevation in southern Peru. The bar sells about 80 frogs a day.

The busiest hour is at 07:00-08:00, when people are having it for breakfast. A cup of frog juice sells for 5 sols. Frog juice sellers also love to produce all kinds of flavours by adding various local fruit juices, sometimes even a little wine.

Wonder if it's Telmatobius culeus (or the "aquatic scrotum").
