Police issue appeal for missing pet skunk

Police have appealed for the public's help to sniff out a missing pet skunk. Flower, a female skunk aged two, went missing from her home on Hayclose Crescent in Kendal, Cumbria.

Owners Andy and Karen Binnie contacted Cumbria Police for help, and they hope members of the public can now help find the skunk's whereabouts. She is around the size of a large domestic cat and very timid, according to her owners, who say she is not dangerous but does have the ability to spray if she feels her life is in danger.

Flower likes to hide in small spaces and sleeps between 18 and 20 hours a day, so local residents are asked to check in undergrowth, outbuildings and any places they think Flower could be hiding.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police advised: "If it is possible to trap Flower safely, then do so, but people are advised not to try and pick her up, but to keep an eye on her and contact police, who will arrange for her to be collected."
