One-legged man auctioning off his severed finger to save haunted train museum

Since 1976, John Baker has run the Bakers Junction Railroad Museum in Smithville, Indiana. The museum — which operates a haunted house in old railcars — has fallen on tough financial times, so Baker's turned to an unusual source of fundraising capital. That is, his own severed finger.

Here's John's story: "YO! It is a real finger key chain. I no it's real it's off my right hand. I cut it off working on Bakers Junction Railroad Museum. It can be seen at The Haunted Train fund raiser for Bakers Junction Railroad Museum. I am a 100% disabled Veteran, I cut my finger off with a skill saw when I was cutting over my head standing on one leg, because I only have one leg.

"I was cutting in a bad place and had to hold the saw in my left hand and the saw jammed up and jumped out and cut my finger off as I fell down. They could not sew it back on so I put it in my pocket. I mummified it and put it in plastic. The money goes to paying for the new medal roofs on the 2 century old train station at Bakers Junction Railroad Museum."

According to John, his money troubles stem from a conflict with the "Commie zoning board" of Bloomington, Indiana.

Little dog brings traffic to a standstill as it goes for a jog down motorway

A little dog and a big traffic problem. It was all caught on camera in Portland, Oregon.

Mango's big adventure started on I-84. Traffic comes to a halt as she contemplates hopping into an SUV, backs out, then zips around another car, weaving across the freeway and people jump out to help including Mango's owner Dan Dowdy who, with a blanket in hand, tries to grab her but face plants hard instead. He says, "So many people picked me up try to catch her, a lot of people seen it my famous touch down drive that blew it."

Mango finally exited I-84 and sprints towards Madison High School. That's where Katu photographer Sean Broderick tracks the runaway while Mango takes a breather. He says, "I think it's kind of funny little tiny dog."

But his pooch's practical joke isn't over just yet. Dan is a bit frazzled. He shows up and tries to coax her, but its clear Mango only wants Mama. So off she goes again with Broderick hot on her tail. He finds her hiding behind the high school just as animal control shows up. So does Linda Dowdy. And Mango's journey ends with a sweet reunion.

Two-faced baby born in Pakistan

Doctors at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi have been trying to save a baby born with two faces, as he has been having breathing problems. They have been unable to feed the baby through the mouth, sources have said. The baby is the third child of a couple from Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Paediatric Ward Senior Registrar Dr Qaisar Aziz said that the new born baby has been shifted to the intensive care unit of the children's ward and was being take good care of.

The doctor, however, expressed low possibility for the survival of the child. The baby has two sets of eyes, noses, and lips, and one pair of ears. “As feeding through the mouth is not possible [at present], he is being fed through a naso-gastric tube. The two faces are angled to each other,” said Dr Qaisar. The doctors explained that medically such a condition comes under the category of Craniofacial malformation.

It is the first case of its kind in the history of the hospital, which was established before the creation of Pakistan. Cases of babies with joint heads or bodies have been treated by doctors, but a baby with two faces “is a novel phenomenon and needs special attention”, said the senior registrar. The baby’s parents, Shahida Perveen and Khalil Ahmed, have come from Palandir of AJK and the couple are reluctant to speak with media.

The last ultrasound test of the woman, taken just before the delivery of, had shown the baby boy as normal and healthy. Dr Qaisar further said there were “minimal chances” of the baby’s survival, who weighed 3.2 kg. Senior doctors said such birth abnormalities are often due to genetic reasons largely resulting from inter-cousin marriages.

Woman has live grenade removed from her face

In Mexico, they call her the 'Miracle Woman' - and it's easy to see why. Put simply, what happened to Karla Flores is incredible by any standards. It all started one day when the mother-of-three, from Culiacán, in the state of Sinaloa, was selling seafood on the street. She heard a bang and something hit, knocking her down. Karla felt a burning sensation in her face and when she raised her hand to it there was blood. Then she lost consciousness. When Karla woke up in Culiacán General Hospital she thought a stone or rock must have got lodged in her face.

The 32-year-old said: 'The doctor asked me what happened. I told him that I thought a stone hit me. 'Then they started to look and discovered that it was some kind of projectile, but they didn't know what it was.' The x-ray and the tomography showed a weird object stuck between the superior and inferior jawbones. Then they realised - it wasn't a stone, it was a live grenade. Apparently, the grenade was fired with a grenade launcher - the noise that Karla heard - but it didn't explode when it hit her face. It just got embedded.

Immediately the hospital was put on alert - because the deadly explosive could go off at any moment and kill everyone within 32ft. Barely able to breathe, Karla was isolated and the hospital's patients and staff evacuated. But the clock was ticking and something still had to be done with Karla. Most of the doctors didn't want to operate on her. Finally, the hospital head, Dr Gaxiola Meza, asked for volunteers. Four brave people came forward: Two anesthesiologists, Felipe Ortiz y Cristina Soto, the nurse Rodrigo Arredondo and Dr Lidia Soto.

Along with two explosive experts from the Mexican army, they took Karla to an open field to operate her. They took all the surgical equipment with them, including light sources. That way, in case they made a mistake, nobody else would die. Karla, under only local anesthesia, was given a tracheotomy so she could breathe and four hours later, around midnight, it was done. The device was extracted from her head by a doctor wearing no armour and guided by military experts. The patient lost half of her teeth, her face is deformed by the giant scar and, according to the doctors, she has at least three years of operations ahead.

Malaysian man claims wife raped by 'invisible man'

A man has claimed that his wife was raped by an 'invisible man'.

The man, in his 20s, said for the past month his wife would remove her clothing, touch her own body and moan while sleeping at night.

He sought help from a medium, who then told him that someone had used black magic to take away the wife's 'soul' and rape her.

The couple, from Bintulu, Sarawak, lodged a police report but the cops could not do anything to arrest the 'invisible man'

Girl, 2, chewed on used condom found in McDonald's playground

McDonald's has launched an investigation after a two-and-a-half-year-old child was found chewing a used condom in the playground of its Geraldton outlet in Australia. The girl's father was eating at the restaurant at 1pm on Saturday near the playground when he saw her emerge from a playhouse with the condom in her mouth.

"I was absolutely disgusted," her father said. "Other people grabbed their kids and just about jumped the fence." He scrubbed his daughter's mouth out with soap and washed her hands and said her health would be monitored.

He showed the condom to a "junior manager", who said it was the second one found in the playground that day. He then asked if he could file an incident report.

A McDonald's spokeswoman said the company was treating the matter "very seriously". Cleanliness and safety were the company's top priorities, with the shift manager required to make half-hourly duty checks on all areas of the restaurant, including the dining room, rest rooms and playground, she said.

Update: A group of schoolgirls have now owned up to planting the condom - filled with vanilla ice cream.

Hospital worker sets record for getting out of straitjacket

Amateur escapologist Sofia Romero is the fastest person in the world at getting out of a straitjacket – and that's official.

Leicester hospital worker Sofia, who performs as her alter ego Sof Strait, has received confirmation from Guinness World Records that her time of 4.66 seconds has been accepted.

Sofia, of Leicester Forest East, beat the old record of 7.26 seconds by wriggling out of a straitjacket at Aylestone Leisure Centre. The 40-year-old, who works in the referrals team at Leicester Royal Infirmary, got into escapology after a throwaway remark to her brother, Rog, last year.

She said: "We were watching a TV show about illusionists and I said, 'I bet I could get out of a straitjacket' and he laughed. I was determined to give it a go. I ordered a £200 straitjacket from America and found that I was quite good at wriggling out. Now I want to do it professionally."

Greyhound who lost every race turns out to be blind

When Jack Sprat the greyhound came last in every race in which he competed, his owners thought they had a dud. But in fact, he did well to keep up with the pack at all because it turns out Jack is almost completely blind and couldn’t see the rabbit. The hound, who was born in Ireland, was entered into dog races in Wimbledon, London, last year after he hit speeds of 40mph in training.

Despite his disability, Jack can still run 100 metres in just 6.39 seconds. But three-year-old Jack, competing under the name Centurys Gunner, came sixth in both of his races at the Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. His baffled owner, believing he just wasn't fast enough, retired him and handed him over to the Dogs' Trust in Snetterton, Norfolk, in July this year.

Vets at the animal charity examined Jack and realised a rare condition had left him completely blind in his left eye and with only 20 per cent vision in his right. They diagnosed him with Chorioretinitis, a swelling and irritation of the middle layer of the eye, which is irreparable. Kate Brewster, 27, of the Dogs' Trust, said Jack would have been 'terrified' racing with no vision in his left eye - used by dogs to follow the rabbit.

She said: 'We don't think Jack's racing owner realised the severity of his blindness and it would have been terrifying for him to race because of the noise. He must have followed the other dogs or maybe used his sense of smell to get around the track. He clearly had no way of seeing the rabbit.' The Dogs' Trust is hoping to re-home Jack but recommend that his new owners have children over the age of 11 and don't have small pets he could chase.
