Police follow trail of beer cans to robber

A Pittsfield, New Hampshire, man who allegedly robbed a convenience store early on Saturday was arrested by city police after leaving them a trail to find him.

Peter Mackey, 24, went into the 7/11 store on Queen City Avenue at about 12:10 a.m. and picked up a 30-pack of beer, but was told by the store clerk that beer couldn't be purchased after midnight, police Lt. James Soucy said.

Mackey pulled out a knife and opened the store's register, then left with the beer and a small amount of cash, he said. Officers who arrived at the store found that Mackey had dropped several beers while trying to run away. “He left a trail of beer behind him,” Soucy said.

The officers quickly found him and he matched the description the clerk provided - 6 feet, 5 inches tall and 200 pound with tattoos all over his neck. Mackey started to fight with police, who used pepper spray to subdue him, Soucy said.
