A mattress was stolen from the scene of a sexual assault before the crime was reported to police, detectives have revealed. A 23-year-old woman was attacked by an intruder as she slept in her home in Perth at midnight on Monday.
Tayside Police said a king-size mattress was stolen from the victim's home in the Bridgend area on Tuesday. Several witnesses said they saw a man carrying a large mattress in the area at that time.
Acting Det Insp Marc Lorente said: "I would appeal to members of the public who have seen this man or anyone carrying a large mattress during this time to contact us. Likewise I would also appeal for any members of the public who have disposed of any king size mattress within the Perthshire area between Monday and Wednesday to contact us.''
The man responsible for Monday night's attack was said to have been wearing a navy coloured scarf, a dark coloured beanie hat, a grey jumper, and khaki green waterproof trousers with a black belt. He was also wearing khaki green boots and spoke with an English accent.
