Man who stole Chinese food delivery car continued delivering orders to pocket cash

An enterprising Hartford, Connecticut, man has been charged after police say he stole a car being used to deliver Chinese food, and then continued to deliver orders to pocket the profits.

Keith Hinds, 45,  was charged on Friday with third-degree larceny, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to keep drugs in the original container. Police received a call from a Chinese food delivery driver reporting that his car had just been stolen at Bristow Middle School after he had left it idling to run into the school.



The driver also called his boss at the restaurant to tell him about the car theft, so that the restaurant could call remaining customers and tell them that their orders were stolen along with the car. Staff at the restaurant told the driver that one of the orders had been delivered after the theft, presumably by the car thief.

With two deliveries remaining, police were able to track down the stolen car and Hinds, where he was making another delivery. He was also in possession of a crack pipe, a joint and an anti-psychotic drug in a bag. The stolen car was returned to the driver. Hinds was held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court later today.
