Mystery of disappearing roundabout rabbits to be investigated

The apparent disappearance of a roundabout's rabbit residents is to be investigated by a council. The "Barnwood bunnies" live in the middle of one of Gloucester's busiest road junctions - Walls roundabout. But residents say numbers have dropped.

The city council said it did not know what had happened to the rabbits and that one of its countryside team would be going there to investigate. Gordon Tozer, who lives near the roundabout, said: "They've been part of my life for the last 10 years. I became aware of the drop in numbers and certainly we've noticed it walking to and from work.

"Instead of seeing maybe two dozen, it would just be the odd one and now, apparently, it's nil." He said: "I'd just like to see them come back or find out what happened to them." Big cat tracker, Frank Tunbridge, who uses the roundabout regularly, noticed the rabbits had disappeared a week ago.

"Usually you see at least one or two of them on there, but there's no sign of them," he said. "There was a keen frost this morning and there wasn't even a single rabbit track which you might expect to find. It's a shame they aren't there as people used to throw carrots and cabbage out of their car windows as they passed by."

Roundabout? They obviously were run over. That's not a safe environment.
