Jam and cream cake filling aroused cannabis suspicion

Derbyshire Police were called to investigate cakes which smelled of cannabis on Thursday morning.

A couple bought the cakes from Ilkeston market. After opening their confectionery they thought they could smell cannabis.

They phoned police and officers were sent to their house. But after the cakes were dismantled the police concluded that the smell was just being caused by the filling.

A spokesperson for the police said: "The smell was just the jam or cream inside the cakes. But it's important we investigated as it could have turned out to be something illegal."
